Volunteering Opportunities

Thanks for looking at our Volunteering page.

Volunteers can support us in lots of different ways, such as

  • welcoming and chatting to service users,
  • collecting donations,
  • teaching ESOL classes (ESOL qualifications are required),
  • helping service users understand life in the UK,
  • helping service users find the right practical items from our supplies,
  • computer and data work, etc.

Our volunteers must align with our values of

  • Dignity
  • Welcome
  • Compassion
  • Social Justice
  • Empowerment

WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH THE FOLLOWING ROLES

Conversation Cafe - Wednesdays 10.15 - 1.00

This is a friendly, informal English session in the Grimshaw Room at St Chad's Cathedral for asylum seekers and refugees who want to practise their English. We look at a different topic each week and each volunteer works with a group of 6-8 learners. The session runs from 11.00 - 1.00, but we ask volunteers to arrive by 10.15 for the pre-session team briefing and to help with the set-up. You do not need to have any formal teaching qualifications, though relevant experience and a willingness to undertake some training would be an advantage.

The best way to find out what's involved is to come along and sit in on one of the sessions. If this sounds like something you'd like to do please email Karen at esol@stchadssanctuary.com.

General services - Fridays 10.00 - 3.00

Please email volunteers@stchadssanctuary.com for further details.
