Volunteers

The great people at St. Chad's Sanctuary

Thanks for looking at our Volunteering page! We are currently looking for people to join our team of ESOL tutors. Please see below for more details. We're not taking on new volunteers for any other roles just at present. We'll be looking for more people to join our busy team again in September.

Volunteering to help with English Classes - starting in September 2022

We are currently looking for volunteers to take on the following roles:

Class Tutors

We run face-to-face classes from Pre-Entry to Entry 3 level, and aim to give each class two or three lessons a week. Each lesson lasts two hours with a short break in the middle. Most of our tutors volunteer to teach either one or two lessons a week. If you are CELTA qualified or similar and would like to use your skills to help asylum seekers develop the language they need to integrate in the UK we would love to hear from you. We also welcome applications from experienced teachers in other fields who would be willing to undertake some ESOL-specific training.

To apply, please fill in our Volunteer Application Form and our ESOL Co-ordinator will respond to you as soon as possible after she returns from leave on 24th August.

Conversation Club Volunteers

Conversation Club is an online conversation group for students who already have a moderate level of English (Entry 2 or higher). Each week we focus on a different topic and divide into small groups facilitated by one or two volunteers to talk about that topic. We are looking for one or two people to join our current team of Conversation Club volunteers. You will need to be comfortable using Zoom and be familiar with its basic functions (including screen sharing). In 2021/22 Conversation Club met on Wednesdays from 11.00 - 12.30, and the volunteers often had a planning session (also via Zoom) on Mondays around midday. Although next year's timetable has not been finalised, Conversation Club is likely to continue on the same day and time and will start again in mid-September.

To apply, please fill in our Volunteer Application Form and our ESOL Co-ordinator will respond to you as soon as possible after she returns from leave on 24th August.
